Reflection over Mathematics Assessment Project

Mathematics Assessment Project

1. This website serves as a resource page for teaching math lessons.  It is based on the mathematics assessment program (MAP), which aims to bring to life the common core standards in a way that helps teachers and students turn to aspirations for achieving goals in the classroom.

2. I would use it because it has many math lessons and classroom challenges listed, which is a great resource.  It is used for helping students connect all the math they have learned so that they can gain a deeper understanding of practical situations and rich problems in math.  It is used time to time throughout the year.  This program describes the various elements of what students should know and be able to do.  It even has assessments where children can be tested and standards are shown.  This would be a great resource as a first year teacher.

3. Yes, because it has plenty of resources and shows you what students should be performing at and gives you the assessments.  The assessments and lessons are designed to reveal and develop students conceptions and misconceptions.  These ideas that are being taught or tested show us how they connect to their knowledge and thought process.  It has many tools and it not based on one type of student.

4. I thought it was interesting that it includes MAP and CCSSM.  That means it includes classroom challenges that are focused on major mathematical practices.  It dwells on concept development and problem solving lessons so it covers a lot of info.  I found it interesting because it dwells on BOTH of them and not just concept development or problem solving lessons.

5. I would recommend it because it provides many resources and helps you guide your classroom and not just one type of student.  It dwells on concept development as well as lessons so you are able to find help in both of those areas.  I think it is very detailed and organized and could easily be implemented into the classroom.

My group and I thought this website was helpful but very informative and detailed.  It took me awhile to read the website and to understand what the purpose of this website was.  It is based on assessing students and teaching math lessons.  One thing I really liked was that it dwells on concept development and problem solving lessons.  If you have the time to read about it, do so, but beware that is not visually appealing.  It also dwells on whiteboards, worksheets, paper, and analyzing work but it does not involve technology.  If you are wanting to find an easily accessible simple lesson plan, this one is not for you.  I much prefer the websites I mentioned under Nelms Nuggets on the right side of the homepage.  Go take a look!

WELCOME NUGGETS

Hi y'all!

My name is Ashley Nelms and I am a senior at the University of Texas at Austin.  I am studying early childhood development and I want to be an elementary school teacher.  I have learned so much at this great university and I want to share all of the wonderful ideas and strategies with you.

On this website I will mostly be talking about math lessons, concepts, and ideas that I have for my future classroom as well as things that I have done at the elementary schools in Austin.

So excited to share all of my nuggets with you!
